The Production chain for Mechanical Ultra–Precision Manufacturing - State of the Art in Industry and Research
The manufacturing of highly precise or micro structured parts with a precision in the submicron range is a challenging task for mechanical processing machines. As an example the manufacturing of forms for the reproduction of highly precise innovative optical elements with aspheric, free form or diffractive surfaces sets very high precision requirements for the geometry as well as for the surface quality. Construction and equipment of conventional mechanical processing machines is not well suited for this task and thus new components and technologies have to be applied.
The workshop wants to report on recent progress in the field obtained in the European research project “Production Technologies for Micro- Systems – Production 4 Micro (P4μ)”. Within the framework of this project the European Union fosters the development and adaption of new technologies for the ultra high precision production in the European Union.
